After his father’s death Ashoka sat on the strone
of Magadha. Ashoka was one of the greatest kings of
India, He was brave, intelligent and a kind hearted
king. He wanted to extend his empire. He invaded
Kalinga (modern Orissa) with a large army. He
defeated Kalinga’s army but he was deeply moved
by seeing the massacre of more than 1 lakh soldiers.
Not only soldiers many innocent people were killed
and wounded. Ashoka returned back to Patliputra,
the capital of Magadha, He decided not to invade on
any other country. He accepted Buddhism and
preached non-voilence.
